commercial ice machines fort worth texas

As a business owner that relies on commercial ice machines, you may be wondering that if there’s a list of common ice maker problems, why don’t they just fix them?  The answer is that they would if they could. The reason they can’t is because ice machines are not a closed system. They aren’t like refrigerators that are only connected to electricity. They aren’t grills that are connected to a non-corrosive fuel source that is eliminated during the process. Ice maker problems are more complex.

Ice machines are more like dishwashers – connected to an ongoing supply of water that is anything but pure. That means you’ll find that most of the problems with ice machines are related to the water being pumped into them.

So until someone figures out a way to make ice without water, we’re here to offer our list of common issues with ice machines:

Low water flow to the ice machine – this might be caused by the water supply itself or the water filter might be plugged up. This can cause undersized or malformed cubes or it may cause the evaporator to freeze up, halting production.

Water leaking IN to the machine – this is typically caused by a leaky inlet water valve. When this happens, ice cubes become over-sized. Sounds good, right? Unfortunately if they are too big, they can get stuck in the evaporator and cause it to freeze up.

Room temperature too warm – ice machine production is proportional to water and air temperature. Higher water and air temperatures result in lower production. The most common problem is higher air temperatures which means ice machines take longer to produce a batch of ice. This isn’t a problem, it is just a fact of ice machine production. Around 95 degrees, the ice machine will stop producing ice.

High water temperature – Water in excess of 90 degrees will take too long to freeze and will trip the freeze cycle timer. In this case, the ice machine will shut down in order to protect itself. This problem is typically caused by a piece of equipment, like a dishwasher, pumping hot water in to the cold water line.
